Pregnant with her first child, filmmaker Siku Allooloo sets out to fulfill the vow she made at 14 to unearth the legacy of one of the most effective organizers of the Red Power Movement—her late mother. Marie-Hélène Laraque was a Taíno activist from Haiti who founded the groundbreaking newspaper “Indígena: News from Indian America,” creating an unprecedented solidarity network across the Americas and igniting the rebirth of the Taíno, who were once wrongfully declared extinct. Fifty years later, Siku’s deeply personal quest evolves into a profound collective journey as she retraces the roots of Indigenous liberation—with Taíno and Indigenous women at the center.

INDÍGENA is a 2025 (Egg)celerator Lab film.
