In 1977, filmmaker Grace Pimentel Simbulan’s mother, Nymia, wrote to her husband Al, "Whenever I consider leaving the Movement, the thought of our children growing up in a corrupt system deeply disturbs me." These letters were among hundreds of covert exchanges between Grace’s parents following the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines. Amidst a violent crackdown on anti-dictatorship movements, thousands of people fought for democracy. The filmmaker traces these hidden letters and untold family stories, uncovering the personal cost of revolution and the enduring strength of her parents’ love in the face of danger, sacrifice, and the political turmoil that defined their generation.
Letters from the Revolution is a 2025 (Egg)celerator Lab film.
